FAQ
- What is the difference between myFeedz and RSS readers?
-
A RSS reader simply shows you articles from your feeds only, ordered by date. There is no relevance sorting or filtering, and you get a lot of noise that makes it difficult to find out what is really interesting.
myFeedz uses artificial intelligence techniques to show you personalized news about topics you are interested in. Some of the ingredients used to determine an article's importance are its publishing source, tags, popularity, overall rating, click-throughs, language and more. Your profile (tags and reading history) is also taken into account to determine how important an article is for you.
- myFeedz doesn’t seem to align with Adobe’s traditional product line. Why is Adobe doing this?
- myFeedz is not the first web-hosted application from Adobe – check out kuler. Adobe is exploring how Web 2.0 concepts and technologies can be potentially integrated in its future products and projects. With myFeedz, Adobe is trying to leverage the collective intelligence of the community in order to facilitate people’s access to relevant news and content on the Internet.
- Who is the audience for myFeedz?
- Anyone who needs to stay up-to-date with the latest trends in business and technology, or who simply wants to read blogs and news about their interests.
- What is a feed?
- A feed is a file format for sharing news, blog posts or other web content across websites. The site that makes its content available as a source of information is said to publish a feed, while the tools and sites that use that content are said to consume the feed.
myFeedz is both a feed consumer because it aggregates news and blogs from the Internet, and a feed publisher because it provides feeds for all its article lists. - What is an RSS feed? What is an Atom feed?
- RSS and Atom are XML-based formats used to export and import feeds across the Internet.
- How are feeds used in myFeedz?
- myFeedz constantly watches a number of feeds for new content and automatically tags new articles as they are published. Anyone with a myFeedz account can suggest other feeds to be tracked by the myFeedz engine.
- What is a tag?
- A tag is a word or group of words that describe an article in the same way that labels describe a product. Articles are automatically tagged by myFeedz with tags extracted from their content. Users can also tag articles. For instance, an article announcing the release of Adobe Photoshop, could be tagged with "software", "Adobe", "Photoshop" or “photo”.
Tags help you define your interests and browse news. Clicking on the "New York" tag will display all articles about New York. - What is a tag cloud?
- A tag cloud is a visual representation of a set of tags. The tags are listed alphabetically and their size differs based on certain conditions. In myFeedz, tag size is based on the tag's importance within the current context.
- How are tags used in myFeedz?
- Tags are one of the most important ingredients of myFeedz. They make up your profile, help you browse articles, and also play a role in determining article relevance for you. Here is an overview of how tags work:
- Tags and your profile. Your tags represent your interests and they constantly evolve based on what articles you actually read, and the feeds you have in your profile.
- Tags and articles. Each article harvested by myFeedz is automatically tagged and a relevance score is attached to each tag for that article. When you actually click on the article, the score of some tags is increased based on your tag profile. You can also add your own tags to an article.
- Why am I not getting any fresh articles for my tags?
- If you are not getting any fresh content it is most likely because myFeedz has not indexed any content related to your tags. Try using related tags (the “Connections” pod in the right corner) or suggesting a feed to a site that you know is related to your specific interests.
- Can I submit my favorite sites?
- Yes, you can, as long as your favorite sites publish a RSS, RDF or Atom feed. Just sign-in, go to Personalize:Feeds and enter the URL address of your favorite feeds. Please note that suggesting a feed is not a guarantee that the feed will be indexed by myFeedz.
- How do I remove irrelevant articles?
- If an article is not related to your interests, you can click the "MARK AS OFFTOPIC" link next to its title. The article will disappear from your list, and myFeedz will “learn” how to better serve you interesting content next time you use it.
- Is myFeedz designed to work with English content only?
- While the website interface is available in English only, myFeedz aggregates articles in all languages. You can specify the languages for which you want to receive articles when creating a new account or from Personalize:Account settings.
System Requirements
You can use myFeedz on any computer running Macintosh, Windows and Linux, having a modern web browser installed with access to the Internet.
Release Notes
This is a technology preview, not a final release. Neither the quality nor the features are complete yet. We want to show you our direction and get your feedback so that we can incorporate it into future releases.
Known issues
- Sometimes, spam feeds and articles will make their way into the system. While myFeedz has a powerful spam-detection mechanism put in place, backed up by the administrator’s vigilance, we encourage you to report offensive or spam content via the contact form. Remember to include the URL to the article or feed in your report.
- If you are using the myFeedz API to display the top articles for your profile in a web application, you will notice that these articles are different from the “top articles” displayed on the myFeedz homepage. This is a known bug, and we’ll fix it in a future release.
