Adobe® kuler is a web-hosted application from Adobe Labs for generating color themes that can inspire any project. Whether you’re creating websites, interior designs, scrapbooks, fabric patterns, graphic identities, or any visual, you can experiment quickly with color variations and browse thousands of themes from the kuler community.
Designed as both a stand-alone application and as a complement to Adobe Creative Suite® software, kuler uses Adobe Flash® technology to bring you online tools for color theme creation. You can save themes to your own Mykuler space, share them publicly, receive new and popular themes via RSS feeds, and more. And developers can use the kuler APIs to bring color themes to any application.
kuler features include:
- Tools to create color themes from a base color and harmony rules, with a color wheel and sliders for ultimate customization.
- Color extraction that generates themes from images using quick mood presets or movable markers to target specific colored areas on the image.
- New! Use Flickr images to create themes.
- Fast search of thousands of themes created by the kuler community. Search by tag word, title, creator, or hex color value.
- Browsing by newest, most popular, and highest rated themes. Or view themes in a random order.
- Access to kuler themes three ways: through any browser, via the kuler desktop, and from within Adobe Illustrator® CS3 software.
Use the kuler desktop to browse color themes from the kuler website while online and offline, and load kuler themes directly into Creative Suite 3 applications (Adobe Illustrator®, Adobe Photoshop®, Adobe InDesign®). Learn more with the feature tour.

FAQ
- What is kuler?
- Adobe kuler is a web-hosted application from Adobe Labs for generating color themes that can inspire any project. Whether creating websites, interior designs, scrapbooks, fabric patterns, graphic identities, or any visual, you can experiment quickly with color variations and browse thousands of themes from the kuler community. Designed both to stand alone and to complement Adobe Creative Suite® software, kuler uses Adobe Flash® technology to bring you online tools for color theme creation. - Who is the audience for kuler?
- Anyone seeking creative inspiration around color, as well those who need a useful tool for finding, creating and sharing color harmonies.
- Do I have to be an Adobe Creative Suite customer to take advantage of kuler?
- Anyone can use kuler to create, share and exchange color harmonies on line. Customers working in web creation and development can copy/paste Hex values directly into their web development software. However, owners of the Creative Suite 3 family of software and Creative Suite 2 software have the added ability to download their kuler color themes as an Adobe Swatch Exchange file for use in certain components of that software.
- What do I need to use kuler?
- kuler can be accessed by anyone with an Adobe ID (the same ID that is used by the Adobe Store and other services). There is no charge to create an Adobe ID, only a simple registration is needed. If you have accessed any preview on Adobe Labs, such as buzzword or Photoshop CS3, you probably already have an Adobe ID. Use of kuler is free. Bear in mind that kuler is a prototype technology that is subject to change. Please review the Terms of Use for a better understanding of use of this new technology.

Release Notes
Known Issues
- A blank document is left open after saving a color theme on Safari. This is a limitation of Safari and cannot be fixed by Adobe.
- The browser back button does not work in the current release of kuler. This will be a feature enhancement in a later release.
- Changing the wheel brightness of a non-base color doesn't change the brightness of the whole wheel.
- If theme name is truncated, only the ellipsis (…) shows up in the title area under theme details.
- In the kuler spotlight section, in some browsers the first large image is loaded immediately into the content area, instead of showing the body text first.
- When using color harmony rules, if a value entered into a color input field is not supported by that rule, it will snap to the nearest supported color within that rule. To get around this, users can start by using the rule to get a basic theme, then, if needed, switch to "Custom" to get the exact color values they would like.
